Default New "New Mexico" License Plate

Apparently Gov. Bill has a new "Centennial" license plate rolling out in January (replacing the so-so "Balloon" plate). You can currently log your vote as to whether the new plate should serve as THE New Mexico plate, or if the state should still offer the option of the traditional "Yellow" plate.

In the grand NM tradition, remember to vote early and vote often!

I voted to keep the option of the yellow plate. I think it has a rich tradition and history and is recognized all over the country. It is different from every other state. I would hate to see it go. As I told the guy at MVD Express, I waited 40 years to have that plate!!!!!

I have a question. The page with the poll says the yellow plate was introduced in 1980. I seem to remember it YEARS before that. Am I wrong?

I think that style of yellow plate was introduced in the '80s.

I really like the new plate! The font is cool... I wonder if that will carry over if it is indeed produced.

I voted to keep the traditional yellow plate as an option, even though my vote may not count because I don't (yet) live in NM. I remember seeing it in the 1960s, perhaps not in its exact present form (I don't remember the bluish-green trimmings), but close enough.

Did you at least use a fake zip code?

I love the turquoise plate, though I did vote to keep the yellow option

I would be surprised if the font isn't very similar, if not exactly the same. I'm anticipating NM's new plates will be produced in the same fashion as the newer Arizona and Texas plates, which no longer seem to be stamped out with raised characters. More like a high tech silk-screen/printing method.

p.s. I voted for all/only turquoise plates. I really like the retro style, with the distinctive new color scheme. Nice job Guv!

I like the new design, but it would look better with a different color.

I took the liberty of making one.

I never liked the balloon one. I think I would kind of miss the yellow one, but it might be time to retire it.

Sadly... I now have a Nevada licence plate (The one that has the strip on it), although there is something about it that says New Mexico is better.

I'd rather have the new licence plate.. Ehhh its something new.
