Are there any monolithic dome homes in NM?
I was talking to a friend tonight about monolithic dome homes and I was
wondering if there are any in New Mexico since they would blend right
into the desert?

We have a couple of dome homes in Timberon. I'm not sure what monolithic is.

If you click on the link below my question it will show you the
monolithic dome homes. Seems they would be perfect in the
desert.

The 2 here look similar to the one on the right on the website.
I looked at a few of them when I lived in Texas out of curiousity and I can see how they would be good in any kind of weather especially desert type weather. It's like going into a cave where the temp stays the same all the time.

Timberon is in the southern part of the state, about 30 miles west of Cloudcroft. It's not on most maps but in the Sacramento Mountains. There are about 300 people that live here. It's pretty isolated. Check out Timberon.org

There was a huge home built about 1972-3 using "somewhat" similar construction, located in Canutillo, Texas - just across the state line from Anthony, NM. But it was solid concrete formed over a mound of earth that had been bulldozed into a rounded form for the concrete to be poured on top of. Once the concrete had fully cured, the dirt was excavated out. I forget how many interior stories there were - at least two but I'm thinking three or more. I seem to recall that structure was abandoned some time back - not sure why - and by now it may have been demolished if it proved unsafe or an attractive nuisance.
There are several "geodesic" dome homes in the Ruidoso area, but not of the monolithic construction. And I've not seen anything akin to monolithic in my travels - but that's not saying much.

Their definition is a bit vague:

Monolithic Domes are constructed following a method that requires a tough, inflatable Airform, steel-reinforced concrete and a polyurethane foam insulation.

There have been a lot of "dome" style homes designed over the years. The igloo comes to mind as an early version.
The Roman Pantheon is considered a monolithic dome, 143 feet in diameter and built about 2000 years ago.

Whenever you have a question like this, rather than wait for an answer that may or may not be adequate ( or might be WRONG), just pop up a mapping site like:
Google Maps
------------------------ and enter ( in the above example ) -------
[Timeberon, NM] in the search box.
It won't tell you were it is, it will SHOW you.
