Try the "East Mountains" area (Tijeras/Cedar Crest out to Moriarty/Edgewood), east of Albuquerque. It's not dirt-cheap, but cheaper than the city and it is pretty close to Albuquerque (easy commuting distance). It also has some suburban/exurban shopping and restaurants.
Try asking this question in the Albuquerque and Santa Fe sub-forums as they discuss/know their hinterlands. You don't need to get far outside NM's biggest cities to find space and seclusion.

Try Fort Sumner. It's a nice little oasis in the middle of the desert - has the Pecos River running through it - has a grocery store, post office, the courthouse (we're the only town in the whole county), a nice medical clinic and very cheap rent. Of course, you might need to look around to find a place far enough out to be really loud - but it's possible. Its sort of a "best kept secret."

Good luck. Nothing in New Mexico is (cheap) anymore, but it used to be.

Moving here from New England, I can say that "cheap" is certainly a relative term! We're paying $600 less a month for a rental house and less than half of what we paid for child care in MA and Maine.

Well of course when you compare the two. People have different meanings of "cheap".
Dona Ana County is cheaper living than Sierra County, plus, Las Cruces (Dona Ana) has so much more to offer people than Sierra does. I can drive to las Cruces and find gasoline almost 25 cents cheaper in Dona Ana County.

Try around Lordsburg or Demming, probably the cheapest property in N.M...

The issue IMO is that if you are really blasting noise, your nearest 1 mile away neighbor is probably not going to be pleased either. Most people who live in quiet isolated areas are quite particular about this.
Maybe near an airport or freeway where it won't be quiet anyway?
Plenty of cheap places in NM, so no worries there.

And costs differ throughout the state. In Albuquerque, $600 will get you a 400 sq. ft. studio apt. in a less than desirable neighborhood. In Santa Fe, it will get you dinner for two and a hotel room for the night.

I mean. The music won't be effecting anyone oustide of 1/16 of a mile. I'm only gonna be running some studio monitors and I'll egg up the studio for sure. Just want seclusion more than anything. Thanks for the suggestions guys ! Keep em coming !
I'm living in downtown Atlanta right now, and rent is skyrocketing.
