Thanks for the great info...
I think sometime folks think that there is less competition is small towns, the problem is that no matter what you offer, if you do not do your research and homework, you have a very good chance of failing...
Parking space I think would be one of the matters I would look into first. Unless you have a "Knock Out" product most people won't make an extra effort to find a parking place to take a look at what a shop has to offer...
Any good Mexican food places there? A good chicken burrito is always on my radar !
I see a lot of 50's and 60's temperatures out there, but mostly clear....
I have accuweather on my cell phone so I am comparing weather between Ruidoso and Santa Rosa California and except for the couple of days when the snow went through, there have been more clear days in Ruidoso than SR Ca
Hope all is well...

We went to visit Song and Charlie on Saturday in Timberon. Beautiful place and very nice people. We had a great time. On the way back to Ruidoso it started raining, then sleeting and then snowing, not a bunch but enough to get my attention while driving the curvy roads. We also got to see where Bear's Mom will be building her log home. I could easily get lost in Timberon.
I really like it here. Trees are fine. Purchased chainsaw to cut up downed trees for firewood for next year. Deer sleeping in backyard now. I must have seen 20 today. Getting down to 25 degrees tomorrow night. That is very cold for desert dwellers. Burr!!!!

I've lived in other resort-ish towns, and businesses tend to come and go with great frequency. Here we get quite a few people who have already made their money elsewhere and love the idea of starting a little business for "fun". After awhile though it isn't that much fun, and if they aren't making money anyway...
Mexican food... pretty hard to ruin it. Lupe's serves up large quantities for a good price. I liked Lucy's better before they moved to Midtown, but it's ok. La Sierra in Alto isn't bad.
This is a good representation of our "normal" weather.
RUIDOSO 2, NEW MEXICO - Climate Summary
Looks like we are in for a cold spell for the next few days... lately it has been super nice though. I'd guess we are quite a bit sunnier than Santa Rosa in the winter. Our least sunny time is the summer, but it's pretty sunny all year.

The majority of restaurants in the Ruidoso area offer some variation of "Mexican" food.
The most popular "Mexican" food restaurant in the area is Casa Blanca, but even with several parking lots, it's still sometimes hard to find a spot to park on busy weekend nights. And because there is virtually no lighting, getting to and from the car can be a challenge for someone in high heels or elderly, etc.
I've mentioned before in these threads that MOST of the restaurants - especially those serving "Mexican" food - buy their daily fare from food service companies out of Albuquerque. So the only difference in the food is the quality and the presentation - quality varies depending on whether or not the restaurant pays the food service company for more than the basic menu.
Pena's is one of my favorite places for lunch (they don't serve supper) because they do prepare some of their menu from scratch. I particular like their breakfast burritos (served anytime).

So I've heard....I plan to try the place out the next time I'm up for house-hunting or skiing, though neither looks very promising at this point, LOL!!
So they'll bring you a salsa with bite if you ask?? Here, that's impossible.
It doesn't need bring tears to the eyes, but it would be nice to get some with a kick every now and then.

We had a great time. I posted in the off topic forum. Lucky you had on long pants and not shorts.
Yes, you can get lost in Timberon easily but you eventually find a main road to get you back on track. That's why we took you back out to the road.

I still need to check this place out. It's hard to stay away from the Log Cabin when we're in town though.
I like Lucy's too but haven't been since it has moved. Sounds like it's changed though.
