In New Mexico, we don't have that many rivers or even creeks. So, you'd think that we would appreciate them where we do have them. Instead we mistreat them terribly. The Pojoaque is bulldozed constantly and bled dry. When it does flow, it often stinks.

My thoughts too. I don't know of any "serious" problems with internet in the immediate Ruidoso area. I do know people in the county have fewer options but am not that conversant on problems related to living there. I do know people in the village who subscribe to different services, and they all have good service, albeit plenty of complaints about false advertising of rates and that sort of thing. As for my DSL service, it was shaky for awhile when Windstream bought out Valor (former telephone company), but things have been pretty stable for some time now with only very occasional outages, and those usually don't last long - an hour or two at most.
RE: RIVER "RECONSTRUCTION:" It is criminal what was allowed to happen in the name of "saving future residents" from their bad choices to live in a flood plain of the Rio Ruidoso. The so-called improvements to the river banks have turned it into a concreted canal that resembles the irrigation canals in the western USA - concrete lined ditches without an iota of charm. But it's no worse than past decisions by village authorities to allow large commercial complexes to build right up to the river's edge. Downside of living in the village is that it's long been dominated by those with an interest in development, regardless of cost to the former "charm" of the community.

That is great to hear about the Internet not being so bad, I could have worked around it, but, I would rather not
From what I have seen, there are some pretty nice condos that are for rent, seems like the prices are around $650 to $750 a month which is not bad for a nice looking condo with a view and a nice deck...Of course I am coming from a view as I sit in my one bedroom apt of which I am paying $1200 a month to rent...ugh....
I would think those condos are close to town? Right?
Am I correct in thinking that I saw that some of those condos may even be available for a lease to buy?
Did you watch the news about the hot air balloon today?
Glad to see the boy safe, but man,,,I think the parents are going to get one huge bill, or maybe a bunch of huge bills...
Thank goodness they didn't have CNN when I was a boy,, would have hated to see my goof ups on national TV..lol....
Have a great evening my friends....

There are NUMEROUS condo complexes, all within the village limits. And there is always a good listing of resales. One of the largest "proposed" developments went bankrupt in the past couple of years and those condos (in an ugly high-rise building) were (are?) being auctioned off for pennies on the dollar. Original asking prices were in the $500k range - starting bids were (are) $130k.
All of the condo complexes that I can think of have good (or at worst, reasonably good) winter access. One of the older, and still nicest, complexes is Innsbruck Village with it's own par three golf course, tennis and swimming as well as a nice pond that many of the units look out on. There are rentals there - not sure about long term vs nightly. One of the best restaurants in town is located in the complex - open to non-residents - named THE TEXAS CLUB (what else?).

Before we bought our place in 2007 we looked at a few condos. We looked at a Touch of Texas which was okay but I really liked some at Whispering Bluff. Some of those units have a nice balcony overlooking the golf course with a view towards Sierra Blanca. They were two story condos with a kitchen, living room and 1/2 bath downstairs and 2 bedrooms with a full bath upstairs. They were very reasonably priced.

About massages - I'm a massage therapist but I'm licensed in texas and tennessee.
I think NM requires more hours than most states.
Since I am not licensed in the state of NM, I cannot work in a spa and I cannot advertise but I can work out of my home if I choose to or go to other people's homes.
I despise working in a spa anyway and only did that in the beginning to build up clientelle.
I didn't advertise. My business came through repeat customers and word of mouth.
Get your wife to start telling people what she is and it will spread like wildfire. If I had a room in my house I could do it, I would be doing it now.

Whispering Bluffs sound really nice...I can see myself working on my laptop, designing websites on the balcony, looking out at the golf course and some mountains....yes, yes, yes... But all I am thinking about now is the best places to rent, but then again, once we get there we may see a great opportunity to jump on, who knows...
I am just happy that there are some nice places to rent as for a moment there, I was worried that long term rentals would be hard to find.
Thanks
White Mountain.

What I forgot to mention is that there may be some condos in Whispering Bluff or like settings that are for rent. There are a lot of people that own multiple properties in Ruidoso. Since the market for short term rentals and purchases are a little slow right now you might want to contact a real estate agent to see if anyone is interested in a long term rental. I have an agent in mind (she helped tremendously and very much had our interests in mind). I can DM you if interested. This is not a solicitation. She just worked very well for us.

When she gets set up, let me know and I'll come to her.
I like to go to different ones. Just wish there was another one in Timberon.
I have a problem with a hip injury I got last Nov., and I'm finally have found a good chiropractor that's healing me pretty well so if I can ever get a room set up in my house, I would love to do massage again. I really miss doing it.
