bkbreakout, another option for jobs that you could investigate is with the BIA schools west of Cuba on the Navajo Reservation. Some of the guidance counselors had a degree in social work. You could contact the Eastern Navajo Agency stationed in Crownpoint who oversee the schools.

Default more towns

thanks so much for the feedback and job-search recommendations. So, my partner talked to the lady with the job in Cuba today, and she said that most people who work there live in Rio Rancho, so I guess it's possible. She was very much talking up the Cuba job, but she said there were also positions in Carlsbad, Artesia, and Farmington. Also, my partner has another interview with an organization that has positions in Truth or Consequences and Las Cruces. Maybe since those towns are so spread out in different regions, I should start a new thread requesting information about them, but I thought I would ask you guys first. Basically, same questions if you happen to know about any of these places: do you think we would find community there or somewhere in commuting distance, would people be hostile to our presence, do you know anything about the social work world, is the land beautiful, and any other information or input you are kind enough to provide. Your time and knowledge is very much appreciated.

bkbreakout,

I don't have any familiarity with any of those places, so I have to bow out. Some of the places you have listed are large for New Mexico anyway and you should be able find some compatible people. And in places that large social work positions should be available.

And commuting from Rio Rancho wouldn't be that bad if carpooling were an option.

So I wish you and your partner the best of luck.

Santa Fe

To my knowledge, there haven't been previous discussions of Cuba. But there is all sorts of information in older threads on the larger towns and cities in NM. Before beginning a new thread asking such questions, it would be best to first peruse what's already been written.

The Roswelll-Artesia-Carlsbad area is very conservative. I lived in Roswell for a year and couldn't make many friends because I was from out of town and Hispanic. I wouldn't recommend a lesbian couple move to that area.
