Move closer to me and I will teach you. I can do both, although I much prefer crochet. I love crafting and rubberstamping is my passion. Would LOVE to have a crafting buddy. It gets very very boring doing it alone. Although the parrot likes to hang out on my shoulder and tries to steal whatever I have in my hand.
I also love to bead but haven't done any since we moved out here.

From Debbie...
There are several knitting groups that meet weekly
One: Meets at 1pm Saturday at the Napoli coffee shop on Carlisle
Two: (Which also includes some crocheters), meets at Taylor Ranch Library
(off of Unser) at 2pm on Friday afternoon.
Also to check the Meetup groups as there are several crochet and
other craft groups and also a number of local knitting and / or beading
shops give classes and may be a source for contacts.
From my own observations meeting a number of Debbie's crafting friends over
the last two decades, many are into multiple crafts such as knitting AND beading
so I would think going to a couple of these meetings might help you find the
partner(s) you are looking for.

I couldn't find any groups on the Meetup groups that weren't closed.
Unfortunately, I do not drive so I cannot really join any groups. I don't really like going to group things if I don't know anyone there. I am apt to go once and then not go again. Terrible I know, but its how I've always been.
Sun Country Beads in Old Town gives beading lessons. One of these Saturdays I am going to take a class, if I ever find the time.

Wow! I really appreciate all the postings. You are all right on about the "sour grapes". NM has always been the heart of what I feel my home should be and I am working on getting back. I will continue my readings to zero in on the place I want to finish out my life. Los Alamos was my first exposure and back in the 60's everything was alive. I've been back since the fire and cried. I'm still a "hippie" at heart and need to find that special place. I gave up my dream to raise a family. Now I want to get it back. Thank you all for your encouragement.
I crochet, cross stitch, and sew!

If only the hippies still ran the world, we would have peace.

You've heard the expression "lies, damn lies and statistics?"
Even though the state can be classified a welfare state does not always mean the people are living in a state of hopelessness. Most choose the simpler lifestyle that comes from living in remote areas and these areas are what drives the statistics that reflect this.
I live in a modest home in Abq and yet there are times when I envy those that choose living in the smaller and poorer towns.

Velvettazz, there are quite a number of little villages with old counterculture communities in northern NM where you will find folks likewise "hippie-at-heart": Dixon, Madrid, Ojo Sarco, Embudo, and Taos, to name a few.
I wish you the best in finding that which you seek!

I think comments on this forum can often be like reviews on places like Amazon and Trip Advisor, a lot of people who post reviews do it because they either love something or hate it. People who hate something let it consume them and talk about that hatred all day, whether it be hatred of a hotel they stayed in, a book they ordered, or a town they live in. Misery knows no bounds. Those who are happy here in NM like to check in here, say some positive things, and then get back to enjoying life in NM. Those who hate it here have nothing else to do it seems, though they say they are here to "warn" people! They sure like to warn people over and over again though.
If you caught me on a bad day I could tell you a bunch of things I dislike about this place. But if you gave me $1 million and told me I could move anywhere else in the country I wanted to, I'd pass on your offer. I have friends, family, and community here, and that is priceless.

Peace?
I wouldn't bet on it, though. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. I'm somewhat an old hippie myself, but people are people. I'd like to have a crack at running the world to find out for sure!
