We are visiting here for the winter and would like to do some rock hunting. Does anyone know of any places we can go?

This should point you in the right direction......this isn't a hobby of mine, so I'm not sure whether or not it's the most current.

There's actually a "ROCKHOUND STATE PARK" just south of Deming, NM.

The JARILLA MOUNTAINS at nearby Oro Grande, NM (30 miles south of Alamogordo) are a good area to find certain gemstones as well as ore samples.

This web page shows some fine examples of surface finds in the Jarillas.
