Default Teaching positions

Hi

I will be receiving my degree in Middle/High School English soon, and I was wondering what the job market for a position in teaching would be.

Are jobs hard to come by in Ruidoso?

Ruidoso is pretty small so I would think yes, it would be hard to get a job there. Silver City is a possiblility. Durango, just north of the NM border in Colorado has many schools in the area. You didn't speculate if you want a large or small city, desert or mountain city so I am just guessing. ABQ has many schools and shouldn't be a problem there getting a job but you need to know what schools to avoid. Santa Fe is quite expensive for a school teacher's salary. Taos is expensive too, so I wouldn't recommend it either. Las Cruces is a great choice for a desert city. Alamogordo is another. Farmington is another. It is growing a lot so jobs will be needed there but you have to know which schools to avoid. Avoid Las Vegas, Gallup, Clovis, Hobbs, Roswell and Espanola, just trust me on that.

Sounds great! I chose Ruidoso because it's only 2 hours away from El Paso (family/friends). I want a small town in specific, but whether or not it's desert is fine by me. Durango is a great town and I completely forgot about it

Anyway, my husband is an aircraft mechanic and I want to know if Ruidoso or Durango would be good for that job as well. How about opening a tattoo business?

I used to go to school in Las Cruces (NMSU) and loved it there. Without having a degree, however, it was very hard to find a job.

Thank you for your feedback! I LOVE NM and plan on living there (anywhere but ABQ) for the rest of my life!

Durango has two airports, a small one and a larger county airport. There is also a large airport in Farmington, about 1 hour away. Ruidoso is quite small so I am not so sure how it would be there. Silver City has a nice small airport too.
Oh definitely Durango for the tattoo parlor! They have a huge motorcycle group there. Also the people are more open to having stuff like tattoos and such there.
Las Cruces has grown a lot in the last few years and they have an International airport so that is another option as new jobs open up there now.
