Default I kinda like here

We've lived in Deming for a couple yrs now. Although I agree with the young fellow , probably for a young person just outta school , Deming isn't ideal . For older more mature folks it's great. Especially if you're on a budget as costs of property and livin in general are probably as low as anywhere in the desert southwest. I don't really know where the rest of the negative people are commin from or just what they require . Deming certainly has little in common with Phenoix or L.C. or anywhere else , it's just Deming. It's rediculous to think you're gonna get mugged at MacDonalds or anywhere else in Deming. Although Deming is surely a workin class type town I don't think poverty is anymore an issue here than anywhere else.We get thousands of R V' n snowbirds each winter and they seem to like it here just fine.

I like Deming for the things it doesn't have as much as what it has.

1. Hurricanes
2. Tornadoes
3 Floods , more than 3 inches deep
4.Snow
5.Earthquakes
6. Phony Posers
7. Excessive traffic or traffic signals
8. Crime
9. Racial conflict
10.Prolonged cold weather

As for the good stuff see Stewart's post . Very well said Stewart .

Hi Atlantis7..,
While I've never lived in Deming I've driven thru it several times. At one time, I thought about buying a piece of property thru ebay at Deming Ranchettes. It was a bargain priced piece of property, however; after getting the winning bid, I chose not to pay for it, so I'm sure I received negative feedback. But, it was too far out in the boonies, away from Deming to suit me, its price hadn't increased in value for over 20 years, and the illegals are known for shooting at you if you are all alone in the boonies if they think you have something they want..., like your money or your car or your pets which they might eat. Deming is built over an ancient lake bed. It has potential with the new Wal Mart and it also has a very nice all you care to eat buffet. It gets hot there! A lot of the surrounding land is worthless! So, I'm glad I didn't pay for that land! I'd rather have property along I-25 between El Paso and Las Cruces..., its more pricey, but well worth the price!

Remember, Deming is only about 30 miles from the border. In town, I'm sure it is great! I like it along motel row and in downtown Deming! I just haven't done a lot of exploring between Deming and La Paloma Mexico. It has lots of volcanic soil.., everywhere.

Thanks for your input Tomcat...!

I enjoyed reading your post! It's like a breath of fresh air and I applaud your decision to settle there! I first traveled thru Deming over half a century ago with my father. We were going to Eloy Arizona on personal business. I remember stopping in Steins N. M. on the N.M./AZ. border early in the morning, just as the sun was coming up. Lordsburg is nice too! Deming was much smaller then than it is now.

The all you care to eat buffet features N.M. furniture in natural pine and is very light in color. One evening while I was there, I talked with a red haired waitress there. The food was very reasonable $7.99 and the service was outstanding for a self service buffet. The waitress checked and rechecked with me to be assured everything was fine. I assured her it was and thanked her for asking. I think I left her a tip too! I really enjoyed it!

domino mentioned:

That's true, but it seems like it does since I-10 Eastbound is heading South there. I guess those little signs with the #10 on them are a big help in that case.

I-25 does some interesting things too. Northbound I-25 actually heads mostly South for more than 30 miles after passing Santa Fe.

Well -- it makes for some excitement. You hear and know of things that people in other parts of the USA can't even imagine and never realize are happening.

The best thing about Deming IS The Adobe Deli and Restaurant/Bar.

Lewis Flats Rd. Check it out.

Bring your appetite!
