I'm surprised no one has mentioned Henry McCarty a.k.a. William Bonney a.k.a. Billy The Kid......

Great posts everybody! I forgot about Julia Roberts living in Santa Fe and a friend of mine who lived in Santa Fe and now in Durango told me she recalls these people too living in Santa Fe: Gene Hackman, Kevin Costner, Jane Fonda, Ali McGraw, Diane Lane, Gregg Braden, Alan Arkin, Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves and she thought Carol Burnett lived there too. Can anyone confirm these are true? Speaking of Julia Roberts, I love all her movies and Val, Kevin, Keanu and Patrick are all hunky guys. OK, I am a single gal, I cant help it! That is right, I Love Lucy does have Ethel several times talking about her hometown of Albuquerque and also that time they visited there, I remember that one since it was one of the funniest lines Fred said. The father of Ethel kept bragging on Ethel and said something about all the boys buzzing around her and Fred said something like "yeah, but I was the only one to get stung." That was so funny. Anyway, I notice NM has a good deal of boxers. Anyone know of any pro football or baseball stars from NM or lives here? Oh yeah, the infamous Billy the Kid. He is buried at Fort Sumter right? Wow, the list grows!

Yer Current Governor ain't exactly hiding under a basket. Getting to be a famous guy.

IMHO - He is the best of the presidential lot running. I've met him a couple of times. There is some advantage to living in New Hampshire.

From years back, actress Greer Garson lived on a ranch near Pecos, NM and singer Burl Ives lived in Galisteo(I think).

What about writers Tony Hillerman and Michael McGarrity? I don't think Hillerman is a native New Mexican, and don't know about McGarrity. Do they live in the state?

Perhaps you've heard of Brian Urlacher, Terence Mathis or Don Perkins? All played football at UNM. Hall of Famer Tommy McDonald played for Highland HS. Don Meredith currently lives in NM. Luc Longley, Mel Daniels, Michael Cooper, Ira Harge and Kenny Thomas all played basketball for the Lobos.

I can't think of too many baseball players other than pitchers Duane Ward (reliever from Farmingtion) and Brendan Donnelly (from Sandia HS).

People from other sports that haven't been mentioned would include Nancy Lopez, boxer Bobby Foster and rodeo champ Ty Murray.

Other folks that I'm aware of are Mike Judge (from Highland HS: creator of Beavis & Butthead, King of the Hill, Office Space), Joyce Dewitt (from Three's Company, lives in Northern NM) and musician Kip Winger (Alice Cooper, Winger. Lives outside Santa Fe).

Actress Marsha Mason also calls NM home. She owns an organic farm (Resting in the River) near Abiquiu, and she holds the Chair position on the NM Organic Commodities Commission.

Chap

I met him too once when he swung through my area awhile back. He is a nice guy, down to earth, I think. I dont think he is going to be the one since Hillary and Obama are better known but I would vote for him. He is also bringing NM out of the back of the pack technology and bringing us out to the forefront with windmill farms, solar, the space tech stuff and so forth. Maybe if a Democrat is elected, they can put him in the Dept. of Energy or something.

About the sport stars, great to know we got some and I recognize some for sure. Also there are many more movie stars, TV stars too living here in NM than I ever dreamed about. New Mexico must have something good going for it or all these stars wouldnt be here!

Towanda, If I remember right isnt Tony Hillerman the same one who writes those Navajo mysteries? I have read one I like from him I am pretty sure, I think Navajo policemen investigating murder. Anyway if so, he is a good mystery writer.

I LUVNM:

Yes, both Tony Hillerman and Miichael McGarrity write mystery/police novels set in New Mexico. I like reading both of them.
