Default Cloudcroft NM

Living in El Paso TX, the heat can get old quick. So I used to make many trips to Cloudcroft NM. It would always be way cooler up there, and you can go from a harsh desert to a lush forest in little over an hour. I always wanted to Live in Alamogordo NM, because it was so close to the mountains, and it was smaller than El Paso.. with a charm El Paso lost for me. I guess also because I could be up in the mountain at a whim. There are lakes up there I hung out at and dreamed away the day.. trails I have hiked many times. I miss not being able to goto AMTGARDS Gathering of the clans, and hiking them old trails now that I am out East on the gulf coast, but I have a wonderful white beach, and trees galore all around me. So I have fantastic replacements. And Where I am is a bunch of small cities like Alamogordo, with that same old charm. I guess I found what I was looking for after all. humm.

New Mexico is a special place.. hope to be out that way again.. some day, to visit.. as I have found my place to live.

The only thing about the Gulf is I would be very concerned about hurricanes and it seems to get worse all the time. The Gulf is very nice though.

That is true.. but thank goodness they give us some time to get out of here when one does come.. unlike a tornado, or earth-quake.

I was thinking about Ruidoso, New Mexico.. and how the old mud buildings and the downtown shopping is there. I really like that. That is something I love about New Mexico... the old Spanish and Indian architecture.

Did they ever do anything with the castle up there.. I think it was a storage place or something at one time.. I always thought that was very cool.

Does anyone on here live near cloudcroft or Ruidoso? I was wondering how the new casino is doing, and if they got enough rain in the area this year to camp with a fire?

We have a cabin up in Cloudcroft and I've been up a bunch of times this spring. It snowed a lot this last winter and there's been an inordinate amount of rain this spring. At least for now, before it gets too hot, fire danger is low.

As for the casino, it's just gossip, but I heard there not making near enough money to pay off their loans for the remodel. Not sure, but that's what I heard.

Good to hear, there should be some good fishing up there then.. and AMTGARDS gathering should be safe on the area too.

Do any of you know what the area near Cloudcroft called Quarris Acres looks like? Does anyone have pictures of that area or any of those other little outlying areas like Piney Woods, or Mountain Park? Thanks in advance.

That is splendid. Mountain Park and High Rolls seem like ideal places to live climatically (less severe winter than Cloudcroft, cooler summer than Alamogordo).
I will investigate further when I come out there, hopefully in a month or two.

Question log homes

Does anyone have any expirience with modular log home kits in the Cloudcroft area? I am becoming interested in buying land and having a prefabricated log home built. I'm sure that I'm not the first person who ever had that idea. Has anyone out there ever done it and if so are there drawbacks?
