Default Bass plate

Also, the State is going to offer a 'Bass fishing' plate, similar to the wildlife one that has the quail on it now. As I understand it, the 'Balloon' plate is being replaced by the Turquoise one, so you can wave them goodbye.

I think it had more to do with the NM B.A.S.S. Federation's sponsorship than a nod to what actually fills most of our lakes and streams.

I'm new to NM. How do they figure the fee's or tax on your vehicle? Is this paid upfront when obtaining the tag...or upon the renewal?

What is the fee for registering my vehicle?
The registration fee for passenger vehicles is based on the weight and year model of the vehicle. Registration fees range from $27.00 to $62.00 for a one (1) year registration or $54.00 to $124.00 for a two (2) year registration.

Registration fees for trucks with a declared gross vehicle weight (DGVW) of 26,000 pounds or less are also based on the weight and model year of the vehicle. Registration fees range from $38.00 to $207.00 for a one (1) year registration or $76.00 to $414.00 for a two (2) year registration.
MVD New Mexico - Motor Vehicle FAQs (http://www.mvd.newmexico.gov/Vehicles/Motor-Vehicles-FAQ.html#fee - broken link)

Once registered we have been doing it in the mail...

The quick DMV places have extra fees

The New Mexico bass fishing (habitat) license plates are available. It is probably just a matter of time til we see a trout version. Some of the money will go to improving the habitat at Conchas, Elephant Butte, and the other lakes that get overlooked for habitat projects. Arizona and Texas put a lot of money and effort into their lakes, but we tend to focus on trout to a fault. I'm sure if they had great trout waters, it would be a similar story.

Mine too, but I like the turquoise one almost as much, and certainly more than the balloon plate.
