I really don't think any part of America has had much of an inpact on NM or the Rocky Moutain area. When it comes to the Rockie Mountain area, there has always been a rather high population of Hispanics, many actually from Spain centuries ago and the area is heavily influenced by Native Americans. Of course the southern most part of NM has some influence from West Texas, but that too would be the Spanish or in the case the Mexican culture. Living there for 7 years I never thought of NM in any other light but what is says: new Mexico.

Actually, New Mexico is definitely more "American" than anything else. Without a doubt. Yes, there is some strong Mexican influence in the far southern part of the state and scattered throughout, but New Mexico is overall much, much more influenced by the U.S. than Mexico!

(Have you ever even been to Mexico??)

No,it's distinctly "New Mexican."

It's not Mexico & it's not Tx or Az or Co.

Pre-1990, I'd say the Midwest, since then California has been changing the culture and politics of other Mountain West states. I think CO, AZ, NV and NM are already culturally transformed into inner satellites of the West Coast, while UT, ID, MT, and WY are also very slowly becoming that way.
