Yes Cathy and Catman, it seems Texas is getting more and more humid. It is really strange too all the rain almost everyday there. Up here, we are getting more rain too. Usually it is real dry up here in northern NM and the monsoons kick in later in the year and we get rain but lately it just seems to rain alot. Mom said the same for Texas - rain, rain and more rain. If it keeps it up, Texas may become a jungle! LOL! Honestly though I just cant take humidity. I can take heat but no thanks to humidity. Humidity ruins your hair and makes it flat as a board and you cant do a thing with it and I hate after you take a shower, you never feel dry. Clothes mold, etc. Yuck! That is one reason I LOVE NM! The low humidity. I cant say enough praises about that. The people posting on Alamo sure sound nice. I like a city that is friendly like that. I have to say the people in NM are some of the best I know and the people in Colorado and Texas are nice people too. I have been to some states where you definitely feel bad attitudes from them.

You're right, Harry.......the smell of fresh rain on the desert is wonderful.
I have been known to go outside and sit on the patio to watch it rain after it has been so dry for so long!

Very much agreed!!! When I was working in a humid, sticky climate in MS, I took at least two showers a day, but I never really felt clean!!
My hair became a permanent frizz bomb....and my face would just stay oily and icky all day!!!
The rain has been unusual. Midland is up to over NINE inches YTD.....when our normal is 12-14 inches a year. We went for years with less than 8 inches.
My backyard is a lush, green oasis, LOL!! But....while the green is pretty...and it will be good for the area lakes and reserviors to replenish, the extra humidity that I am not used to just drains me.

North Central Texas, where I live, was experiencing a severe drought before the rains this spring. One of the local lakes was 18 feet low! So we really needed the rain we have had. That being said, I much prefer the low humidity of NM, although I wonder whether or not the increasing population is going to use up all the aquifers and lakes eventually.
This is an exceptionally wet year in TX (so far), but it just makes up for the preceding 18 months.

Yes Catman, Texas really has had a strange few years with extreme droughts and all those terrible fires then and now all the rain, definitely the rain is needed. I agree totally Cathy! Humidity drains you!

The proximity of Cloudcroft is one of the things I like about Alamogordo! And I love those summer showers.
Cathy: I am surprised that real estate in Alpine is so high. As for how I'd manage in music in that area, I probably wouldn't. Living there would have to wait until I retire. I'd prefer to live somewhere that I could play gigs even into old age.
As far as climate and environs are concerned, Silver City looks like a nearly perfect place, but I'd probably have to give up playing to live there. I hope I'm wrong. Alamo is about 4x as big, so it might have some opportunities; but it may be the same way. I'll certainly check them out.

Not only Cloudcroft, but High Rolls, which is 12 miles and 6500 ft...I'll be checking all of the areas out for sure. I didn't visit Silver City because I knew it didn't have what I wanted, and is so far from all ski areas. But I will be visiting for sure later on.
I also plan to get back down to Marathon and the Gage Hotel Cafe Cenizo)....for some fine dining!!!! That's another reason I chose Alamo.....easy drive home...and to all the places in far West Texas (El Paso,Alpine, Marathon, Ft. Davis, Marfa) that I love dearly.
I don't blame you about the music/gigs in the area. I hope I get to meet some locals there for jam sessions. I'm out of practice now, but it wouldn't take me long to pick it back up!!

LOL!!! I just believe I made a good choice after running all over the state of New Mexico last year and this year!!
They're still building. They just poured the sidewalks/driveway a few days ago.
I won't be moving until after Aug 10.....I'll have to come back here and repair/paint/sell my place after the movers get all of the furniture out!
So how are things in Gulfport? I wonder how you cope with all that humidity after living out here for so long.

Cathy,
Hope you will be able to stick around for Labor Day. We want you to come up to Timberon to go to "Putting on the Lips". Community fund raiser for the kids in the area where there are many lip sinc acts. Its so much fun..
Also don't forget the hot air balloons mid Sept. Many go up real close to your house at the soccer field.
And you will be real happy with the air condidtioning if we do have humidity this summer.
