Default Anyone going to New Mexico

Lived in Palm Beach County since '77, need a change (rude people, traffic & hurricanes). Any info on the Albeuquerque or Santa Fe area, also what's with the state income tax, we don't have one here. How bad are the rattlesnakes?

If you haven't been to New Mexico, you really need to visit. It is lovely and vastly different from here. That is desireable however there is a"but....".

I have family that lives there and I have visited Albuquerque numerous times each time thinking this was the place for me ... well, it wasn't. We did the same for Santa Fe and that we even less for us. This is just my opinion and you really need to visit.

Cost of living is lower, there is a state income tax, jobs are not plentiful and salaries are not wonderful. As always, there are exceptions.

Take a look at the NM forum --

If you want a better idea of your tax burden, download the personal state income tax return from the NM website, then just fill it in using last year's W2 info (or 1099 if you're a contractor). Great way to see what the state tax will cost you, and to compare various states. Be sure to also check out the little taxes - car registration fees, sales tax, etc. I was appalled to see what AZ charges for car registration.

AngelaFLA: If you move to NM from FL, you'll get a huge change in just about every way. My understanding is that the state income tax in NM isn't much. TX, where I am, doesn't have one either. I would think that now, with hurricane season starting, would be a great time to get out of FL. I'm looking forward to moving to either NM or far west TX (Ft Davis/Alpine/Marfa).
