A friend is considering a move to Alamogordo, and has located a house on Catalina. In your opinion, is this a safe area to live. Older areas are okay as long as they are fairly safe. We realize there is no such thing as 100% safety in any area, new or old, so your feedback is greatly appreciated.
It's in the same area in an answer i just gave to another poster in another thread and with the exception of having a bad neighbor that no one can ever tell it's not a bad area as again it's just an older middle class area .
Thanks for your reply. Another quick question, are you familiar with Virginia Ave? I believe it's near the police dept.
It's an older area than the Catalina st area and they have been ripping the street up as they are constructing ADA ramps along with new water and sewer lines. Would i live on Virginia ... sure if i liked the house that i was living at .
Always feel free to ask as i live here and know the town very well
I found a house that I like closed to Catalina and have chosen not to rent it do to viewing www.familywatchdog.us . I wrote and asked a question here on city data before looking. I also look at Google maps (street view) like what JAXART said. The houses don't bother me it the cars, trash and junk in the yard the detours me.
only 32 more days till we head for Alamogordo!!

Unfortunately, that's endemic to all of NM. It's less of a problem within town jurisdictions IF there is an active code enforcement dept. to cite people for junky properties. The problem arises when numerous vehicles in still operable condition are parked in someone's yard, since they can't be defined as "junk."
Buying in a neighborhood where there are restrictive covenants can also lessen the problems associated with "trashy" neighbors.

Well there sure are alot of junky yards in Alamo especially some of the mobile parks as that fumes me and i wish the city would condem most of them however i believe ''Google Street View'' is updated every two years so that specific street photo may be a year or older possibly?
Secondly Alamogordo finally hired a city manager (Mark Roath) as he's been on the job now for about six months as we went over a year without one and the previous one was worthless and rightfully fired by the city council. I've personally interacted with Mr. Roath and voiced my concerns about streets, parks and junky yards etc. and he's ready, willing and fire up to get Alamogordo moving forward in all areas as i hope he's successful .
