State tax in NM or TX?
Crime in Eunice or Andrews?
Just overall quality of life in both?
Whats the weather like?
Whats the people like?
What's the schools like?
Just any inputs is AWESOME and APPRECIATED !!!
Thank you ALL,

Or What about Hobbs?
I was born and grew up in Eunice and have very fond memories. In the '60s they had one of the best school systems in the country, but state funding rules changed in the late 60's and the educational system, which is still very good, suffered. I also lived in Hobbs for many years. To be honest, I would choose Andrews. Not only does Texas not have an income tax, I think you will find the school system excellent and also the medical facilities. (You really do not want to depend on Hobbs medical care). If you've never lived in a desert climate, it will take some getting used to, and you will either love it or hate it. I will assure you, though, you will witness the most beautiful sunsets in the world, bar none.

Default NM vs West Tex city services

You may want to check out the Hobbs area, a top rated school district the last 15 years. They have procuced 7 Rhodes scholers from the local colleges. The crime is 13% less than Eunice and 17% less than Andrews. There is a double A rated hospital and a nice selection of places to eat. There are some negatives: #1, no Starbucks, #2 no target, ( there is a Super Walmart, I guess that is like a target), #3 there is no Macy's, #4 the locals are too friendly, they are always asking, can I help you? Do you need anything? I like to be left alone.

Hobbs doesn't have less crime. I remember reading not long ago about it being one of the most dangerous for a city thast size. Several murders and such. Actually the only good thing about Hobbs is the casino which attracts visitors that spend their money in the city.

I am also thinking of moving to New Mexico- The Hobbs area for work. I see that there is a Nazarene Church in the area. Can anyone tell me a little about Hobbs. What is the housing like? We would be moving from South East TX- Rio Grande Valley area if we decide to do this So I doubt the weather would be to much hotter. How cool do the winters get? Do you get an influx of people w/the Winter visitors? Thanks for any information I can get on this.//ld

Default NM vs. texas

There are big financial implications in the decision. If you are going to rent, living in TX is GREAT! If you are going to buy, the property taxes will kill you. You can buy much more of a house in NM and you'll probably have to pay NM state taxes anyway. Look at the amount of property taxes in TX...there is no income tax, but they get it from you in property taxes.

I have lived in Hobbs all my life. I don't know anything different other than the occasional vacation outside these 4 walls!!! Whoever said that Hobbs had good schools and healthcare needs to have a child in the schools here and have to take a trip to the ER. Yes, you are correct, we do have a Super wally world. The employment and housing situation here is pitiful. Wally world can't keep enough competent people around to run the store 24 hrs much less the hours they have now (7a - 10p). Housing costs have almost tripled in the past few years. My family is looking to get out of dodge while we can and go somewhere that is more calmer, less stressful, and where people are down home and easy to deal with. As far as crime, wow, its starting to get crazy. To go along with the employment situation, the police dept is facing a severe shortage of personnel. If anyone in Hobbs is sitting at home not working its because they are too lazy to get up and go to work. As far as education, the teacher/student ratio is about 1:25. I will say that we do have some fine secondary colleges here. NMJC (2 yr) and CSW (4 yr) that are strong christian colleges. I don't want to discourage anyone from moving here if they want to make some good money, but I wouldn't see myself retiring here.

I just read this article about how the new enrichment plant is coming along and that LES will hire around 275 permanent workers up from 210 when completed as stated earlier.

Weather is pretty much the same in both places....long, hot, dry summers with mild winters.

Andrews is closer to bigger cities (35 from Odess and 45 from Midland) than Eunice is.

Since Andrews is over 4 times bigger than Eunice (2K to 9K), your kids will have a lot more to do in Andrews. The people are friendly, though small-town West Texas (and NM, for that matter) can be sort of clannish. If you need help, you'll most likely get it.

I've been to Eunice, passing through...and I would not want to live there.

If you want relative isolation and are closer to Eunice, that might be a consideration.

State sales tax is 8.25 here in Midland (that is with all local and county taxes added in) and we have no state income tax.
I am originally from Eunice. Grew up there. It IS boring! The kids from Hobbs come to Eunice's main street to drag it looking for members of the opposite sex while the Eunice kids go to Hobbs. When I was growing up there they still had the drive in. I think they have a bowling alley and might have improved quiet a bit since I left in the early 70's! They had a swimming pool down at the park and a ball park behind it, a rodeo arena opposite. The park has tables and swings, slides, etc. It is the main hub of activity during the 4th of July celebration and that little town goes all out! It starts with a parade and goes from one end of main street to the other, down at the park. The firemen get into the act with a water polo contest with the fire hose, they have a flatbed trailer set up with a local bad playing songs, usually country. I have fond memories of that and haven't been able to find them duplicated anywhere else! You can't see the park just "driving thru".
Hobbs is better as far as shopping and doctors and they do have a hospital. I think Eunice has at least one doctor now.
Their school system and education is better than any here in Texas. It took many years to figure that out though. Meeting many kids after I have grown who didn't even know how to tell the time proved that. I think it was BECAUSE it was so little that the teachers can give better attention to teaching, but the pay was lousy.

NM has 5% state tax and the fire ants haven't reached it yet. Last I heard they had made their way to Andrews. Maybe because the weather is so dry that they stay in Texas. Andrews IS on the border, but the mesquite trees are bigger and greener than only a few miles away, so I would say Hobbs would be better than Andrews.

Of course by now you've probably made your mind up, I'm a new comer so pardon if you have.
