Eunice,NM (or) Andrews,TX????
My husband maybe getting a job just east of Eunice and we are looking into the area and it is either Eunice, New Mexico or Andrews, Texas. Anyone have any inputs on either of these towns would be great. I have 3 children 7, 4, and 1, I am looking for the best place to raise them.
some questions I had are:
State tax in NM or TX?
Crime in Eunice or Andrews?
Just overall quality of life in both?
Whats the weather like?
Whats the people like?
What's the schools like?
Just any inputs is AWESOME and APPRECIATED !!!
Thank you ALL,
SS
Or What about Hobbs?

I'd pick Andrews, hands-down. The school system is excellent, and always has been, though I haven't looked at their rankings this year.
Weather is pretty much the same in both places....long, hot, dry summers with mild winters.
Andrews is closer to bigger cities (35 from Odess and 45 from Midland) than Eunice is.
Since Andrews is over 4 times bigger than Eunice (2K to 9K), your kids will have a lot more to do in Andrews. The people are friendly, though small-town West Texas (and NM, for that matter) can be sort of clannish. If you need help, you'll most likely get it.
I've been to Eunice, passing through...and I would not want to live there.
If you want relative isolation and are closer to Eunice, that might be a consideration.
State sales tax is 8.25 here in Midland (that is with all local and county taxes added in) and we have no state income tax.

OMG, it's a different world!
For starters, TN is rolling hills, lots of trees, a humid climate...and I am going to assume that GA is not unlike TN, MS or VA...and is probably even more humid and verdant green. Right?
West Texas and SE New Mexico are relatively dry (humidity runs less than 25%much of the time) desert/semi-desert arid areas. I would think that someone from the deep south would find it quite a shock out here!
I am a born and bred desert rat who loves dry climates, arid/semi-arid lands...and desert surrounded by mountains!
I spent 6 months in MS--and those were among the most miserable of my life. I hated the high humidity, the constant rain, all the fireants, bugs, etc. My allergies just raged, and I NEVER felt good. I took at least 2 showers a day, because I was always wet and sweaty, never felt clean. You can't cool off very well in high humidity.
I assume that you are used to same, living in GA.
Get ready for a radical change, LOL!!!! You might love it! Who knows??? Only way to find out--if you've never been out here--is to pay a visit!

Wow I hear you Cathy and wholeheartedly agree! My brother-in-law and sister live in Arkansas and I love them dearly but hate to go there because it is so humid and I don't want to do anything but sit by the AC. Everything there seems to bite and is poisonous! Snakes, gators, fire ants, the list goes on and on. I hate chiggers too and they have them by the tons there. They are these little bugs you can't even see and they dig into your skin and excrete a fluid under your skin to cause your flesh to liquify so they can eat your flesh and it causes extreme itching! People are actually thinking about retiring there and I just don't think they have a clue about how they will never feel dry, will always have to watch out for dangerous snakes, will have to live in poverty worse then NM among other things. I saw people without any teeth! Just sad. They think to retire there will save them some money but they don't realize having to drive for 100 miles to get anything not found at Walmart will quickly eat up their budget. All I know is I REALLY appreciate the low humidity in NM!

Ooooh. Do I hear that, CJ!!! Makes me ITCH just to think about them.
The south is NOT the place to go during the summer if you can help it. I won't even visit Sis in Austin except in the dead of winter, when the humidity is down.
If she has never been out here before, I think she's in for quite a shock, LOL!!!
What part of NM do you live in?
