help finding an apartment and the motivation to get out of a bad situation (Many: rentals)

So, I've been living in a horrible and uncomfortable situation for a couple months now and I NEED to get out. I've been checking Craigslist and nola.com everyday, religiously.

I'm looking for a place for my boyfriend and I, preferably in the University/Uptown area, as I'll have to bike to the Tulane campus for class and work. We're looking for $700 or less. I know it's super cheap, but it's really all we can afford.

Are there any websites you-all could recommend for rental searching? Most of the ones I've found list only complexes. Or, perhaps you know of rentals in the area that haven't been listed?

Any help at all is greatly appreciated.

Ride around and look for private owner signs. Many don't advertise as they don't want to deal with lots of phone calls.
