Well don't judge us hard working New Orleanians for it either. I moved here from elsewhere and I think I would die for this city if I knew it would make a difference.
I also think the impact of the hurricane here hasn't been felt, since there haven't been city wide elections without people getting bussed in from elsewhere. New people arrive here every day as it can be challenge yet a joyous place that many fight hard to keep.
And many here are just a passionate about being Louisianians as they are proud of living in New Orleans.
(And that is the message many average New Orleanians want the rest of the state to know, especially post Katrina)

Wow, Titus, First you say you've never been to New Orleans but yet you say it is a feces pond. That's incredibly.....well, we all know what that is. I lived there my whole life and I would be one to give an honest description or opinion about N.O. Not someone that has no clue what they are talking about. The rest of the countries around the world would be so lucky to have just even one city as wonderful as N.O. All you haters need to get outta this here message board. You know not what you speak about.

I was in N. O. last week. Metairie/Kenner? Pretty much back to normal business as usual. They are now building a Macy's in the parking lot of Lakeside, and friends of mine say Macy's is committed to completely remodeling its Esplanade Mall store. Lakeview? Lots of recovery and new construction. Admittedly a long way to go but lots of progress. Vista Park and Gentilly? Pretty glum, miles of devastation still, but more and more, new houses (some raised way off the ground) and renovations. Crime? Still mostly concentrated in Central City, the 9th Ward and N. O. East. Just like it's been for the last 40 years or more. If you're a tourist, stay out of there... just like they tell you to do in Los Angeles for "South Central" and "Watts" in the tourist guides. Food? Great as always. Most of the old-school family-owned restaurants have re-opened, and in place of those that didn't, plenty of new owners have come in.
The whole beauty of New Orleans is that people preserve their traditions and prefer to patronize local businesses when they can. If a New Orleanian is your friend, they'd die for you, and if they don't like you, they'll be in your face immediately. How refreshing!!
Move back? Well, if you believe in New Orleans, do it. Indications are it simply isn't going to go away due to the proud resilient nature of the people. Real estate? Admittedly inflated due to lack of livable housing, but zigzagging back towards normal. I hear they didn't write as many sub-prime loans and many had to make some sort of mortgage adjustment post-Katrina, so it's a buyer's market... just don't expect fire-sale prices on homes in Metairie or the other areas where life has very much returned to normal.

I'm with you; it's mean to judge all by one. So why judge an entire city based on the actions of some and not all? Why judge a place where you have never been?

Shaley and Sparklesprinkler I do not know if you read this forum anymore but let me say I know exactly what you ladies are saying. There is something wrong with the people in this country, especially the further north you go. I live in Salisbury, Maryland and it sucks big time. I do not even bother to makes friends here at all anymore, its too much effort. Lets not talk about food. I've been up here sine Nov'05 after Katrina and I cant wait to get mya$$ out of here and go back home to New Orleans. Do whatever it takes to reclaim your rightful place in this country. We southerners, and especially, especially us folks from New Orleans must remember that we are fundamentally two different types of people than the rest of the U.S.A, and I'm glad. It just so happens we are living on their turf and its not very sociable or hospitable. In New Orleans we welcome everyone no matter where you are from but its not so in other places. So you two hang in there, there are plenty of us scattered throught the entire country experiencing the same things. Perhaps next time we'll fight harder for our city and stand guard over her from all forms of corruption. Take care ladies, luv yall and dont worry about those unfriendly neighboors, you wont have to put up with them long, they dont want to knew us its their loss.
