I may be attending Delgado in the fall, and I'm not sure if I want to move to New Orleans or stay where I'm currently at (1 1/2 hours SW of N.O.).

The area around Audubon Park & the Warehouse District are the safest areas in town IMHO, which also means they are definatly not the cheapest.

I'm looking for something around $400-$1000 a month. It can be an apartment or a home.

The city park triangle, mid-city near delgado, and the Navarre area behind delgado are where you need to look. These are safe areas that are walking distance to delgado, city park, and the Canal St. streetcar. You should be able to find something decent in that price range.

Ok, I'll start my search in those areas.

Also, what streets should I avoid in my search?

I'm finding a lot of places in Metairie that are more within my price range. Is it a safe city overall?

Metairie is very safe, but it is not in New Orleans. It is a typical surburban area, but it might be more what your used to coming from South LA.

Metarie is extremely safe. going to Delgado its not that bad of a commute.

that being said you should also check the Lakefront areas in New Orleans. Its a little pricey, and they got hit really bad by Katrina, but its one of the nicer and safer areas in the city.

Okay, due to the fact that I have a car, I'm trying to actually find apartments in either Jefferson, Orleans, or St. Bernard parishes, but I'm having no luck. What websites should I look some up on, or can you recommend some?
