Hey all,

I am not a NOLA native but am planning a destination wedding there next year because my fiance and I love the city so much. I am looking for a good band to book for the ceremony and reception. The kind of music I am going for is a variety of jazz, soul, blues, brass, and maybe some top 40's oldies (like some doo-wop) thrown in. I would like someone more authentic and less showy than many of the "wedding bands" in the area. I am looking at The Batiste Brothers Band, Rebirth Brass Band, or Louis Ford and the Flairs (I have listened to all of their music online and like it all!) I have been to a few websites including the American Federation of Musicians website. Can anyone vouch for the bands I've listed or recommend bands that they have seen or hired for such an event? I am thinking Rosy's Jazz Hall as a venue - any input on that would be appreciated as well.

-Thanks

Default Plenty in Quarter

Hi Branchan3000,

My wife and I just got married Memorial Day weekend in New Orleans and ours was a destination wedding too. Of the jazz bands mentioned, Rebirth is the only one I'm familiar with and they are one of the pricier yet possibly the best in the city. They put on a show for sure!

My wife and I found that if you search on the web you will find agents and music representatives that will reach out to the bands themselves to get you under contract (ie. hyper-soul is one that will find you a band). We didn't go this route though...

We arrived a week before the wedding and what we did was walk around the corner waiting for the bands to play. After hearing this band, Young Fellas, play on the corner of Canal and Bourbon, we approached them with our request to play at our wedding. We exchanged numbers and it worked out really well! We also saved more than half of what we would have paid by doing this too. If your a bit adventurous and have some time before the wedding I would suggest 'hunting' for bands in the Quarter and speaking with them directly.

As for brass bands, we noticed the following online that we found appealing - Rebirth, Stooges, Jaywalkers, Hot 8 brass band, Soul Rebels, Dirty Dozen

Hope this information helps...

Was it TBC Brass Band? If so, they are one of my favorite Brass Bands.

Default Young Fellas (sp)

The brass band we got to play for our wedding was Young Fellas (or may have been spelled Young Fellaz).

We saw them on Bourbon/Canal, pulled them aside after they played, and exchanged numbers. They sounded wonderful though!
