Someone I know who used to live in New Orleans was telling me about her horrible experience with 'flying' roaches. I love the idea of moving to New Orleans but unfortunately, I'm deathly afraid of insects.

I wanted to know if this roach problem is true, and how severe is it?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, the big outside ones fly and sometimes get inside. But since they are the size of a grasshopper, they are quite easy to see and kill.

It's common to see roaches in Louisiana but not THAT common. My girlfriend is DEATHLY afraid of roaches and she does just fine.

Yes. They are freaky. But you get over it.

Trust me.

I hate them and won't even squish one with my shoe. I even freak out a bit when I find dead ones in my garage. That being said, I'm doing just fine here. You won't go without seeing several a year, but they aren't running around everywhere you go. Mosquitoes in the summer months are more bothersome than roaches.

If I can live with the insects here, anyone can

The big ones, cockroaches get inside but only live for a day or so. The dry air kills them.
