I am looking at craigslist for apartments as I will be moving to new Orleans in June to work at Tulane but it's hard to determine if areas as nice and safe even though I am looking under general key words such as "warehouse district" or "garden district" etc,... So instead, I decided to ask those knowledgable about intersections, one in particular is plum street and Hilary street. I'll be asking for more as my search continues prior to my move. Thanks all!

That's a good area, close to Tulane, low crime, but if a place costs $1600 in that particular neighborhood it should be pretty big.

Also, in your other post you said Tulane Medical Center- maybe I'm just overanalyzing this, but you do kow that's not on the Tulane campus Uptown, right?

Thanks for the replies! Yup, I meant Tulane medical and it's pretty close drive as I've been using google maps to see how close these craigslist apartments are to Tulane medical ctr.

Question:how many days would you guys suggest I take to visit for apt hunting? I can't take that many days off work so trying to maximize the amount of time I can take off

Well I was told by someone on Oak Street last night that Snake & Jake's is in a bad neighbourhood, and that's only a block away from Plum/Hilary. But I don't think Snake & Jake's is that bad. We live a few blocks away and I love the area. I would suggest apartment hunting on as many week days as you can spare, when we were looking we discovered a lot of rental agencies aren't open on Saturdays.

Honestly, short of a few miscellaneous incidents, mostly car break-ins, the Carrollton area is a predominately a safe neighborhood and very conveniently located. I strongly recommend looking into residence there.
