Default Is the French Market Festival a Rip Off?

They are having the French Market Festival this weekend. I have heard that prices for food and drinks are sky high and that the businesses are really ripping off the tourist that come to visit. Even with all the free music, the prices just don't make sense.
What do you think?

It's French Quarter fest, and the food/drink prices are in line with any major festival here. Its a bargain compared to Jazz Fest.

Yeah, Jazz Fest is still what $40-$45 if you buy in advance... you'd have to eat all day at FQF to even equal the cost of admission to JF (which I still prefer, but there's no question that FQF is a much, much better bargain).

This is the first year since Quarter Fest started that we have missed it. I wish I was there. I have always found the food and drink prices reasonable. Festival allows one to try foods from many different resturants located in the quarter without having to actually have a full meal. I see it as an opportunity to experiment.

I remember how small the first French Quarter Festival was compared to today's festival. It was actually started to bring locals into the French Quarter. Gosh, I can't believe I am missing it this year.

French Quarter Fest isn't a ripoff by any means. Hotel prices are jacked up because tourists are now keen to it. Come and see it while the acts are still free. The prices at the vendors are cheap compared to Jazz Fest (as others have said). It used to be a fun locals fest, now I can't stand it because of the large crowds. Love tourism, hate not being able to enjoy the small fests anymore Oxymoron, I know.

When you go to a festival and buy food/drink/etc you usually end up paying a little more than similar things would cost elsewhere, but if you just budget that into the cost of entertainment, I still think it is a good deal.

Funny thing, I moved away ten years ago and FQF is the event I miss the most.

The Audubon Nature Institute makes the BEST crawfish pies! It's on the menu as crawfish bread, but they're actually turnovers, and damn, they're good!!!!

That sounds like a lot of fun.

French Quarter Festival was always huge fun for our family. We still had children at home when we first began going as locals in New Orleans. We lived on a limited budget back then and "festival" was free. Back then we would take a picnic and blanket and just enjoy. Later, my husband and I always went. This is the first year we missed "festival". I am still regreting that we were not able to go.
