Default Harvey, LA Info

Hello,

I'm moving to Harvey, LA just west of the canal near Lapalco Boulevard. I was wondering is anyone could tell me where people go to shop in the area, food markets, restaraunts, basic need. I'd love get a good idea of where to go for the basic and not so basic things before I'm there. And any other info or thoughts on the area would help a too.

Thanks!

South or North side of Lapalco?

There used to be a very large shopping center at the corner of Lapalco and Barataria (Belle Promenade) that closed down shortly after the oil bust. The area languished for a while but slowly has started to build up again. There is a Home Depot right there and there is also a Wal-Mart a little further up. Toy-R-Us, Circuit City and many car dealerships are also right there. They are also just starting to rebuild Belle Promenade as a mixed development with smaller shops, etc.

Manhattan Blvd. about 5 minutes down the road has a Sam's, Lowe's, Wal-Mart, Target, 16 screen theater and several places to eat as well.

There are a number of places to eat in that area but frankly, 15 minutes from New Orleans, you'll probably want to eat on the east bank most of the time.
