Default Horses outside of New Orleans?

I have the possibility of moving to New Orleans next summer. My wife and I have two horses that we would like to keep with us. Where would be a good place to look for a piece of property where we could keep our horses within commuting distance of New Orleans? I was thinking Mandeville/Covington, or Slidell. The other consideration is proximity to a beach (Long Beach, MS, I guess?).

Any information or recommendations on places to look are appreciated.

Brian

There's lots of horse farms north of Covington near Folsom.

On Hwy 23 on the westbank I know there are some horses. The further south you go the more you see - especially south of Belle Chasse.

You can also find horses going west on Hwy 90 past Boutte mostly between Des Allemands and Thibodaux.

Oh, and come to think of it, there are some stables in Audubon Park Uptown.

Thanks, I didn't realize there were horse farms south of the city. I'll be working at Callender Field, so that's an ideal location.

The previous people who posted gave me some great information. Just wondering if anyone has more to add on keeping horses in the New Orleans area. Primarily I'm looking at Covington, Mandeville, Slidell, and Folsom.

Default northshore

There are some stables in Madisonville and Covington but really Folsom is the place to be when it comes to horses in the New Orleans area. It's beautiful and there are rolling farms with horses up there. It's a great safe good school area too.
