Relocating to New Orleans and split between two areas (Jackson: apartment, crime)

My husband is taking a new job in New Orleans and we need to move in two weeks. We went apartment hunting this past weekend and finally have come down to two options. We have not been able to find crime stats on the areas.
One apartment is half of a renovated shotgun double close to Louisina Ave and Tchoupitoulas/Anunciation. The other is on Orange Street, a block north from Magazine St. The Orange street is smaller but very luxurious and close to Coliseum Square. The shotgun is bigger with wonderful neighbors and seemed safe.
Could anyone help out with info on these two areas? Is Coliseum Square safe or is it a hang out for addicts after dark? What about the area of Jackson and Magazine after dark?

I'd go with the Coliseum Square area. You can't beat that area of the LGD.

Louisiana at Tchoup and Anunciation...can be semi sketchy.

You can check crime stats on the NOPD's website. Go to: New Orleans Police Department

Then click on NOPD Crime Maps. You can enter the address of a property and get a map showing recent crimes.

I'm with Vampgrrl. Coliseum Square area is the better choice.
