Is Chalmette rebuilding?
Thanks for your kind words, Micktooth. We have relocated to Covington, La. - hopefully higher and drier. It is nice, but not the same family atmosphere as Chalmette + a 45 minute commute to work.

Drouzin, no not BVN, we were between St. Marks and the oil refinery. So, we also had crude oil in our house, along with the nearly knee-deep mud..
There's still no birds, tree frogs and crickets. I am glad your Mom's area is getting back to somewhat normal.

Lol, oh no, not Mom's area! BNV is a gone pecan; see...
I meant my area, Poydras, and where I am staying now, Chalmette Slip. Sorry to have caused confusion.

Chalmette still has tremendous potential, but it cannot be recognized if people don't come back. My uncle has rebuilt his home on Riverland, as have several others around the Chalmette High area.

Can't really say too much more than what was already said about Chalmette. I grew up there and we lived there most of our lives. My parents lived in Chalmette during the time of the storm and my childhood home was destroyed along with the rest of the city (and parish). I would never consider moving there after the storm and most of my family and friends have not moved back (unless they had to). It is a shame b/c it was a decent place to live before the storm, but unfortunately there will be MANY MANY years before it recovers (if it ever does).
Really, I urge you DO consider moving elsewhere. In that general region I would only consider the northshore area (Mandeville, Covington, Madisonville, etc) a viable option if you MUST be in the NO area.

People are rebuilding but there are still no levees. Now it floods with a hard rain.
