Originally from Metairie!
I moved to North Carolina in 1990 and have raised both of my kids here. We have good schools for the most part, better than the public schools in LA anyway.
I actually work in dialysis as a PCT in the Greensboro area of NC. Have been in the field for 15 years. The pay is great considering you don't have to have a college degree to be a PCT and it is a whole lot better than working in a factory, mill, etc.
Send me a message, if you want more info. I'd love to talk with you.
P.S. I know what you mean by New Orleans will always be home, I still miss the food! LOL

Kentucky is a great state to live in. In or around Georgetown as this is home of the Toyota Plant and business in booming. It is my understanding that there will be a hugh hotel built there before the 2010 Equestrian event which could mean a good job. I'm a realtor and would love to help you if you decide on Kentucky.

I Have Thought About Giving North Carolina A Chance, And Now Tha T U Say Tha T There Are Jobs In Pct, Thats Even More Of A Reasont To Give It A Try, However I Haven't Really Used My Skills Since I Finished School In Atlanta, About A Year Ago, But Its Worth A Try, And Besides U Say The Schools Are Good, and Thats One Of My Main Concerns, Because As Much As I Love New Orleans(da Food)lets Be Honest The Education Is Not Good, And Right Now My Daughter Is In Kindergarten, And The Schools In Metairie Are Okay, But I Know That There Is More Outside Of Louisiana, And I Want To Give Us Both That Chance.

I think you would find mississippi gulf coast right up your alley, gulfport/biloxi area we have casino's that are always hiring and it's not far from your home either, it's not congested and over populated. and it would be a great safer place for you to raise your child. we also have plenty of things to do and offer here. and there are 3 diff military bases here. you should check it out.

I was raised in NC. NC is a very nice place to raise children. Try Asheville, Charlotte, or outside of Raleigh.
I live in KY now, and I have to say KY is also a nice place to raise children. If you are used to city life, try Louisville or Lexington. Both cities are doing fairly well in the medical industry. There are also lots of smaller areas around both of those cities. Elizabethtown seems to have a lot of doctors and medical staff. That might also work for you.
IN has a lot of nice areas, too. As for city life, Indianapolis always seems nice to me when we visit and they have a lot of nice places to live outside of the city. I have no idea about their crime rate, but I have always felt safe there.
I have friends in St. Louis who say that city is really great for children. There are lots of things to do there. I don't know about crime though.
I have also lived in Texas. Both Dallas and Houston are large cities with lots of careers for those in the medical fields. Both cities offer some really great areas to live in the suburbs and smaller surrounding towns. In Houston, try the Woodlands, Pearland, Friendswood, etc. I can't recall a lot of the communities in Dallas right now, but there are many good ones.
If it was me, I would probably look at NC or KY. Maybe Indianapolis, IN, too.
Good luck!

MODERATOR: This thread is almost a year old and the OP has not returned in some time...I'm going to close this since it really has nothing to do with relocating INTO Louisiana.
