Hello all!

I am moving to NOLA on July 1st, and was wanting some recommendations for some places/services. If anyone can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated!

What is a good credit union/bank to go through? Something where the minimum balance that you have to keep in your account is low. Also, what are usual bank hours in New Orleans, 9-5? And are they open on Saturdays?

Where is a good doctor's office/clinic? I will likely have no or limited health insurance, so I was hoping to find somewhere affordable, but still with good care. Likewise, with a good vet/animal clinic?

Can someone recommend an optometrist/shop to buy contacts and glasses from?

How about a good dentist or dental school where students offer reduced scale prices for dental services?

Where is a good mechanic or shop to go to? Honest, affordable, etc.

Lastly, anyone know a good comic or tattoo shop in the area?

Thanks so much for any help! I love this city and cannot wait to become part of the community!

A lot of this is just "shot in the dark":

I bank with the Whitney. They and capital one will have the most branches. The minimum for a checking account is $250 though you can get that waived if you meet certain requirements. Open "bank hours" mon-fri and 8-12 saturday.

I go to William Woessner MD on Camp in the Warehouse District/CBD. Not really sure how costly because I do have insurance. A good vet is Carrollton Veterinary Clinic on Carrollton Ave between Earhart and Palmetto.

St. Charles Vision? I had Lasik a few years ago so not really sure.

I go to "Mid-City Smiles" on Canal. The LSU dental school is located at 610 and Bayou St. John... not sure if they offer student services.

Get my car serviced at the dealership, though I did have a good experience with D&M on Conti. They also issue brake tags (inspection stickers).

There's a comic shop on Freret. Not sure about best tatoo shops, but there's Electric Ladyland on Earhart, Mid-City Voodoux on Carrollton...

Welcome home

Loyola used to have a dental school and take people for students to work on. It took forever b/c they did one little thing and had to wait for the professor to approve it before they could do the next thing. I believe I got excellent and cheap care there but that was in the 1960s.
