Hello everyone,

So my husband is in the military and has orders to NOLA, I've been trying to find nice apartments in a nice area so I wanted to know if anybody has any suggestions. Ive researched Metarie as we've been told that would be our best bet since its cheaper the city, but we dont want to live to far away from the city since my husbands job is there. We are also expecting in Septemember I will be out of work until we find child care so we would like our budget to be under 800/month if possible. Since we've never been to New Orleans and dont know the areas really well I want know places that will be a safe enviorenment to raise our daughter in for the next four years.

Thanks.

Metairie is good-- generally about 10-15 mins from the city. Or you could try Harahan/river ridge. It is a little farther out but there is Eahart Expressway and also Jefferson highway/Claiborne into the city.

Good luck!

Yeah I feel metairie would be the best bet, since some of the apartments I was researching are in that area and close to his job.... would you happen to know any good apartment complexs that are nice and still affordable?

Back when I lived in apartments, Gatehouse in Metairie was the safest. They always had a waiting list. The apartments are older, but nice and homey. And it would be super convenient for you since it is on the I-10 service road-- you just hop right on the interstate at bonnabel. Also, you could try a condo at Whitney place. Basically across the interstate from Gatehouse.

BTW, I lived in Gatehouse (102a) and LOVED it. There are lots of older people, so sometimes people joke that it is an old folks home because it is quiet, but I also felt very safe living there as a single woman. The two bedroom townhouses have little courtyards.. Were very nice. Your neighbors will want to know all about you lol. But that was fine with me as I wasn't a partier.
