New Orleans is known locally and abroad as one of the most eccentric cities in the country. We all know about the food, the music, the art, the history, the culture, and its ethnic diversity. And sure, while there are other cities that offer some of the same, there are those things that are quintessentially New Orleans and CANNOT be duplicated.

With that, what are some things you only see in New Orleans? Try to avoid the obvious like the FQ and the like. Whats my vote? Well my vote has to be for this guy...there's only one Mr. Okra!

LOL!!! I've seen this done right on the streets in San Francisco! The homeless like to hang out in the civic center of the city.

I did enjoy one sight that I may never see anywhere else.

It was Palm Sunday, and from our room in the Marigny I heard brass music. I stepped outside and watched a priest lead a procession of the church congregation carrying palm fans and a small brass band playing "Down By the Riverside".

That was really cool.

When I was a kid we went to NO during the breakdancing craze in the 80's. Kids walking around with pieces of cardboard and setting up on corners in the FQ. Never saw that before or since.

Last time I was down there i saw kids tap dancing and playing drums on buckets..You prob'ly see that in a few cities tho'.

Yea I recently saw the "Church 2nd line" reported on the news! Ironically, there was a lady originally from New Orleans now living in Portland who was interviewed about the experience during her visit back home. I say "ironically" because your handle Bluesmama, you're from Portland, and you remarked about the very same instance.

Hmm ...Was that you on the news by chance??
