How things change... a few years ago NOLA was a notoriously unsafe town.
Now it's not even among the worst 100 for crime in the USA (except for murders )

Springfield, Missouri is 95???? There are people in this town who don't even lock their doors because it is so safe here. Now granted *some* areas of town are less safe than others, but it boggles my mind that we would be #95. That just cannot be right.

As for New Orleans....Hurricane Katrina helped a lot.

New Orleans violent and property crime rates have been relatively low for quite a few years now, it has always been the murder rate that is extremely high. Even the years before Katrina, those violent and property crime rates were a lot lower than people thought, then it spiked after Katrina (2007/2008), and the last few years (since 2009) it has lowered a lot.

I get my information from this

I've been preaching about the lower crime rate for a while now, didn't know it was that low though! Great news. Now to get Baton Rouge off the list.

Preach on Annie!!!

The violent crime rate in New Orleans has been middle of the road for quite a minute and now we're making strides as far as the murder rate.

Wow, great job New Orleans! I really love visiting that marvelous city and I'm very happy to see the crime going down.

What is/are the reason(s) for the downswing in violence?

It's probably a mix of good police work, the new partnership of non-profits "Nola for Life," and gentrification/shift of crime to the suburbs.

LOL what a joke of a list. New Orleans not on it is hilarious. I like living in NO but give me a break. It's still among the worst cities in the WORLD for murders. Let's not let our enjoyment of what NO has to offer blind us to the reality of the insane murder rate in the city.

York, PA more dangerous than New Orleans? LOLOLOLOLOL. That should tell you how horrible that list is.

Minneapolis? I can't breathe from laughter.
