Mobile may sort of resemble some parts or New Orleans architecturally because of it's history but when it joined Alabama, the state basically destroyed all that. Mobile used to be covered with housing like New Orleans, most if not all streets were brick or cobblestone. It's just that Alabama got rid of that whereas NO still has that. Mobile still has some of it but not much.

Baton Rouge was more similar as well until it was burned down during the war.

Honesty, I would say Mobile. The only real advantage that Baton Rouge has is that it is closer to New Orleans. If I had to move to one place or the other tomorrow then I'd take Mobile in a heartbeat.
