1998-2002. I guess it wasn't actually the garden district. It was one house off of St. Charles lakeside. I also rented a place across the street from cafe dumonde in the French quarter for 6 months at $700 a month.

....man if only! TBH, I wouldn't want to live in the Quarter, but to rent a place right off St. Charles for 800 bucks would be a dream. I fell in love with Uptown again today while driving down Napoleon and Prytania headed to drop my youngest off at the school my wife works. I'd love to live in that area, but its a bit (well maybe not a "bit", but HELLA...) pricey!

Yeah, I know. The cost of living is higher, but many things are better. It all works out. Can't complain.

I was single at the time and I thought the quarter would be fun. I'm glad I did it and it was fun, but I probably wouldn't do it now. BTW, when I moved out of the quarter I couldn't sleep for a month because it was too quiet.

I'm a man by the way. I'm sure the name is confusing but it goes way back to middle school.

If you know of any agencies that are apartment referral sources, you know, they help you find apartments for free and bill the landlords if you sign a lease and can give me some names that would be greatly appreciated.
Most rentals go off word of mouth and Craigslist.

I've seen many places off of St. Charles go for that much. It just isn't the time for me to move. And by many I mean once a month or two for the last couple years.

When I moved back in 2009 I looked at probably 20 apartments uptown. Nothing decent was under $1000. We saw one on lowerline with a hole in the floor that looked into the apartment below for $1200 a month. The prices have only gone up since then. You might find a decent studio for $800 a month. I love it here, and I think it's worth it, but it is getting expensive.

I haven't seen these places in person that I've looked but I've find quite a few that seemed nice enough for under $800-$900. Of course a couple of these were in Mid-City.

Love mid city. So much architectural charm.

I've never looked at any apartments in Mid city, but if you find a 2 bedroom apartment anywhere close to St Charles for $900, I would say check it out thoroughly, because there are probably some flaws.

Interesting conversation people (Annie_himself, norb 123 and Polarvortex 1415). I'm learning a lot. If I may add, one of the things that attracts me to New Orleans is the architecture. When I first saw a shotgun house it blew my mind and all the vibrant paint colors on the building exteriors was just mind boogling and made my heart sing. Everything in Chicago is a drab grey, brown or brick red except for the steel and glass modern skyscrapers. Chicago has great architecture too but New Orleans is totally different. And I love the profusion of flora. The whole city is like one big garden. As for apartments I'm looking for either a 1 bedroom or large studio, floor space of 400-700 square feet.
