I will be relocating to Slidell this summer. My husband works in Chalmette and I am a consultant and work primarily from home. My son will be attending Slidell High. We have been to Slidell a few weekends to look for a property to lease or purchase. We are looking for a safe area with other kids his age (He is 14) that is close to shopping and other conveniences. I was using a real estate website and ended up in a neighborhood that was sketchy to say the least. I know that I am asking a ton, but does anyone have any suggestions? Anything helps.

What is your price range? I live in slidell. Are you looking for newer neighborhoods or olded established neighborhoods. Also, think about how much home owners ins. will cost you. They go by how close you live to the lake. Slidell did flood during Katrina.

I would love to stay under $1700 (lease) but we are willing to pay more based on a few variables. The same holds true with any purchase. We are flexible based on a few variables. I loved some of the newer and older neighborhoods that we saw during our visit. I just did not want to move into an area where there were no other children or a place that was so far out that it took a long time to get eggs and milk.

Keep in mind Slidell real estate is not unlike places on the West Coast of Florida. Be very certain that the home you buy is what you want as it can be difficult to resell. If you buy a place then change your mind it may take many months or years to sell. That makes for a good buyer's market, but eventually you'll be the seller.
Virtually every property south of Gause Blvd flooded during Katrina. A storm like that may never happen again, but one can't be sure.
Get a realtor and take your time.
