A.K.A. the bestbank. Crime has gone through the roof since Katrina. Murder rate specifically. If you will be working in New Orleans, the traffic across the CCC (Mississippi River Bridge) is terrible. Don't forget the toll to get into the city also. I commuted to the westbank from St. Tammany Parish for years and made good time till I got to the bridge. 1/3 of drive time was getting across bridge. I could make it from Slidell to Canal St. (CBD) in about 30 minutes. Since the storm, traffic from Slidell is even lighter. I think better quality of living in St. Tammany. Sheriff who proactively targets the criminal element who came over after the storm. Just google the cities you are interested in and do your research.

If you feel Algiers is the best place for, look to stay around the Auora(sp?) Gardens area. Or you could consider Terrytown or even Gretna or Harvey.

I'd stay in New Orleans itself, or old Algiers or Old Gretna.
