I think it's amazing that a poster could cite "black influx" as a factor to consider when deciding whether or not to move to a town, and have nobody comment on that. I know NO is in the South, but I didn't think things were this ridiculous.

I'd recommend Lake Oaks. It's a neighboorhood located adjacent to the University of New Orleans at the intersection of Elysian Fields and Lakeshore Dr. The neighboorhood experienced minimal flooding as a result of Katrina. Crime in this area is pretty much non-existent and Benjamin Franklin H.S., now a charter school and long one of the best in the state, is located within walking distance.

I was just thinking the same thing and was about to reply to it before you brought it up, glad to see someone else is uncomfortable with that comment. For all they know , the OP could have been Black themselves.

It's so routine how some people say things without even thinking about it on this site..."black influx". Beware the black infulx is coming to a neighborhood near you....LOL

Desperately want to move to New Orleans
I need to get in touch with some people in New Orleans. I am seriously considering moving there. I've lived and worked in New York and San Francisco, and, it is a long story, but I'm stuck in Salt Lake City! My mother grew up in Louisianna and met my father while he was stationed there during WWII. I've visited Louisianna and New Orleans many times, especially when I was growing up. I can't cope with the Utah in more ways than one and I hate the bitterly cold winters. I want to leave but I need to talk to people about the rents in New Orleans and safe areas to live. I love old architecture and would enjoy living in an old partitioned large house or old apartment building that has been kept up. I would really like to correspond with people about New Orleans and then start to make my plans to leave Utah and move to this great city. I love diverse populations and people from all walks of life (except the criminal elements). The beauty in Louisianna and especially New Orleans is incredible. I can't explain it, but I feel that I would fit in and enjoy life there. If anyone from New Orleans would care to talk to me about this great city, I can be reached at: rowleyda3@comcast.net. I look forward to hearing from someone that I could discuss certain issues about this move with.
Many regards,
Debra

We lived in the Gentilly Woods area close to the seminary in the late 80's early 90's. How is that area now. My husband is thinking of returning to seminary to complete his PhD. Our children are grown, so schools are not in question, but purchasing an affordable home is important.
