You know, the classic "Deep South" moss that hangs from oak trees. Where is it in New Orleans?

I ask because I notice that if you look at street-views of eastern and/or Atlantic South cities (i.e. Savannah, Charleston, Tampa, etc), the spanish moss is dripping from pretty much every tree. This streetview in Savannah shows what I mean:

Whereas the oaklined streets in New Orleans are much more devoid of the moss:

Anyone here know why this is the case?

Note: this strange absence of moss applies to other Gulf Coast cities away from the east as well (i.e. Houston, Mobile, etc). I'm not saying that these cities don't have the moss, just that it isn't as conspicuous as further east.

I'm not following either. In Audubon park and City park it's everywhere. I will say that I live on a street with big oak trees that don't have any moss on them. Some have it, some don't. I won't pretend to know why. I'm sure there's an expert here somewhere.

Well, that's what I am saying. In Savannah, it seems that every oak-tree has spanish moss, whereas only specific areas of New Orleans do (like the areas you named).

No spanish moss on Esplanade, for instance.

I think it's just human intervention. In Louisiana and East Texas swamps that have been left alone you'll find as much Spanish moss as Georgia and the Carolinas.

A lot of the moss that you are probably looking for has been taken off of the tree by parade goers, or kids climbing the trees. City Park has a bunch of it!

Animals have also been know to use the moss for nests and other things.
