Relocating for business
Hi,
I am relocating for business in about 3 months to New Orleans. Can someone direct me to a good city to live while I'm there for 3 years. It don't have to be in New Orleans, just city near it will be fine. I'm coming from San Francisco, CA and traffic here is bad so 10-20 miles of highway driving is fine for me.
Thanks in advance.

Very close by, I'd say Metairie, Kenner, River Ridge in Jefferson Parish. However, there has been some (ahem) "urban migration" into those areas, so if you are willing to go farther out, there's Hammond/Pontchatoula (Tangipahoa Parish). You could also go to the "north shore" (areas of St. Tammany Parish like Mandeville, Covington, Abita Springs, and Madisonville). Only problem is, everyone else has the same idea, and housing prices are skyrocketing there, and the traffic is pretty bad as well.

Metairie, Kenner, River Ridge in Jefferson Parish. How bad are we talking about? Do you think for a asian guy I'll be okay or I need to sleep with one eye open?

I hope you will do more research before you decide to go. This is not an easy time to live in Louisiana, especially around New Orleans. First of all what part will you be working in? Do you realize how bad the traffic is getting in and out of the city every day now that half the population lives in the surrounding towns? There are still not enough hospitals up and running for the population that does live there. Right now Louisiana rates last in every category in the book, last in education, last in healthy lifestyles, ect...Don't get me wrong - the people are great, the food is great, the music is great, the daily living is hard.

There are some good places on the Northshore if you don't mind a commute. Are you going to be working downtown? If it's Metairie, or Kenner, the commute could be even less. How much space do you need?
