New Orleans-based developer Gulf Coast Housing Partnership filed plans with the city for a 65,000 square foot health clinic at 1631 Elysian Fields Avenue.

The project will be developed by Gulf Coast Housing Partnership in partnership with CrescentCare, which will operate the facility. CrescentCare is a community health center that offers a full spectrum of quality care at low to no cost to the entire community with or without insurance.

The health campus aspect of the project will have a pharmacy, conference rooms, training rooms, supportive housing workspace, a testing center, wellness rooms, a laboratory, a dental lab, counseling facilities, a women’s health clinic.

The three-story project will also feature an unnamed bank branch, bicycle parking, and a large parking lot for cars. The entire lot is roughly 42,000 square feet.

The project filed its stormwater management proposal with the city on April 24, 2017. The project represents some sorely needed healthcare amenities for this area of the city.

Massive Health Campus Proposed for Elysian Fields | Canal Street Beat | New Orleans Real Estate News

Justin Augustine, the Regional Transit Authority's general manager, gave the agency's board a first look at the overall concept, including, most significantly, a new line along Elysian Fields Avenue from the riverfront to Claiborne Avenue, where it would hang a left and link up with Canal Street.

The article is from 2013, when the streetcar line was proposed. Is the city still planning on doing a line there?

Does anyone know what's been going on with the streetcar situation since?

A streetcar line on N Claiborne? Where? Under the overpass? If so, I don't like that plan. That strip under the overpass is an important area for the nearby locals in the 7th and 9th wards, Treme, and mid-city to come together for events like Mardi Gras, and it's been that way for a long time. There's nothing like watching Zulu pass by N Claiborne and Orleans for Zulu and then chillin with crowds of people in the streets after the parade ends. Putting a street car along that path would kill all of that. The idea of even planning that is a dismissal of the culture in that area.

Wasn't there talk before about tearing down the overpass?

I personally have no problem with the CrescentCare Health Center. I think something like that would be very beneficial to the area, and its great that it provides so many services to the local community.

The streetcar I'm not sure about. I think it would most certainly raise the property value for the area as would the health center but I don't want it to hurt the local culture of the area.

Also in other news. Has anyone heard about the potential new hotel in Bywater on the 3000 block St. Claude Ave.

Developers plan to turn five properties along St. Claude Avenue in Bywater — including several houses and the former art space The Truck Farm — into a block-sized hotel development called the Sun Yard, with plans pending the approval of several city commissions.

The plans call for linking the properties together with fencing between them, with the inside area housing a pool and the hotel's interior space. The plans also call for the construction of another unit as well as the removal of steps on the street-facing side of the houses, which would be accessed internally. A restaurant also is planned on one side of the hotel, and a parking lot is planned on the other side of St. Claude.

The development includes addresses at 3000, 3014, 3020-3022, 3024-3026, and 3030-3032 St. Claude Ave.

Mitch scrapped those plan for the most part. The Rampart line was built to Elysian Fields and then Mitch focused on the streetcar/bus terminal at the end of Canal. That just finished.

I think the next proposal will be the "French Quarter loop", connecting Rampart to the Riverfront line.
