knowing that the NOLA and NYC accents are similar and that both cities have a large amount of Italian, are the Italian Americans in New Orleans similar to the Italian Americans in NYC? Does the Italian population New Orleans mix in with the local creole culture, or do they stick the Italian American culture like the Italians in NYC?
Also, one last question, I know most Italian Americans don't affiliate with the guido-sub culture, but are there a lot of guido pop culture presence in NOLA like there is in NYC/New jersey area?

Wife's grandparents immigrated from Sicily and owned a small bar in New Orleans. My FIL was the"smart" one and became an engineer and married a German descent girl. FIL brother worked for the Mob while my FIL hated the Mob (even though he was friends from a young age with the leaders) and what they did to the reputation of all Italians. There is still an Italian culture in New Orleans but it is dispersing and integrating into the general culture. Yes to some degree there is a mix of the Italian into the creole culture especially with food.

My grandfather's family came to N.O. from Palermo . All working class folks . They remained a close family but some of them married outside of the " culture " . My grandmother was French and German . One of Grandpa's brothers was a low level flunkie for Carlos Marcello .

All of the Italian immigrants here were Sicilian.

There is somewhat of a "guido-like" sub culture here with the younger crowd mainly in St. Bernard parish. It's similar to what you'll see in NYC/New jersey, with the addition of hunting and fishing.

The people with the accents are called "yats" and they are of Italian and Irish origin. Both the Irish and Italians were relegated to the Irish Channel, a part of town. There was a lot of intermixing between the Irish and Italians because of common religion (Roman Catholic) and not being Creole.

Some mixed in with the Creoles as well.

There's a large number of Sicilian descendants in Tangipahoa parish.
