Young family with kids possibly moving to NO
I would work in the French Quarter on Decatur St. Need a very very safe area to raise a 3 and 4 year old that is close to work (under 30 minute drive one way). Any suggestions?

The N.O. schools didn't used to be good. Check on GreatSchools.net to see how the ones your kids would go to are rated.

Probably. Check out north - metairie, lakeview area.
But - I don't know anyone on the southshore who sends their kids to public schools. Period.

THis has been true for many years. my son (who went to private school himself) is moving before his kids get to be school age. For comparision, in Ft. Mill, SC, all the schools rate 8-10/10. You won't find that in N.O.

"VERY,VERY" safe, I don't think there is a place in NOLA. Try looking in River Ridge, 70123. It's relatively safe. We used to live there. Now if you wanted a "very very" safe place within a 30 min. flight....

Need to be across the lake
You need to look across the lake in the Slidell, Mandeville area. Safe and the public schools are acceptable. there are some commuter van pools available to help with gas, the long tedious commute.

Agreed. Hate to be negative, but it's the truth. I'm sorry! But it's nice on the northshore! And SO MANY people make the drive.
