Default teaching positions in New Orleans or surrounding areas

My husband is in talks for a position that will move us to NOLA. I am a middle school science teacher in Alabama. All of my experience is in inter-city areas (difficult students and parents). Are there teaching jobs available in N. O. or the surrounding areas?

Middle school science?! Science, math, and special ed are the mantra words in the local school systems here. For more input try nola.com education forum.

Default Nola Schools

Thanks for the web site. Any input would help. I understand there are many private schools and since Katrina an abundance of charter schools have opened. Any thoughts on salary? Might I be better off financially to look for something out of education. While education is my passion, I can't live on poverty wages either.

Hey Teach, here are some sites for local school systems:

These places are considered to be in the NOLA metro area:
New Orleans Public School System
St. Bernard Public Schools
Welcome To Jefferson Parish Public Schools
St. Tammany Parish School Board (Northshore)

These places are a bit further out, but had good reputations in the local teacher world pre-K:
Home - Plaquemines Parish School Board
St. Charles

PS. Private school salary here is a poverty wage so I would avoid them.

Don't know about the non-church schools, but I used to work for a Catholic girls high and you taught for God, not money!
