Default Jobs in New Orleans

I'm thinking about moving to New Orleans this fall (2008). Currently I work as a freelance editor for companies located in the northeast U.S., but I might want to get a full-time job in New Orleans. About this, a couple of questions:

1. In general, what's the employment situation in New Orleans now? I've read that because many people haven't returned to NO after Katrina that there is a shortage of people for some kinds of work in New Orleans? True? Also true for professional, managerial fields?

2. Anybody know anything about jobs in editing/writing in New Orleans? Anything from alumni magazines to professional organization newsletters. I realize that this is a pretty specialized niche, but you never know. Someone might have an inside straight about this.

Thanks for any & all input & info.

I'm a writer and I just moved to NOLA and it's an interesting paradigm how the city works. If you're looking to be a stringer, you may have luck.

My best advice is don't think the internet will be your best tool, it's helpful but will never really compare to how people would rather meet and talk face to face.

You're more than likely going to take a job different than what you want but, then will find what you want through meeting people etc...

It's a weird dynamic.
