Default Need Info on the Westbank...

My fahter is going to be working in the Westbank on a temporary assignment. Can anyone tell me what area constitutes the Westbank? What areas of the Westbank are good and what areas does he need to watch out for? Any info you can give would be appreciated. He is arriving in the area tonight and I would like to help him find a place right away but want to be sure I find him a safe area.

Any suggestions on other areas he can stay that would not be bad commutes to the Westbank would be good also. He is there mainly to work so he doesn't need to be in the mix of touristy areas. Quiet places, rural places and places others would consider boring are fine for him.

Also a heads up on what to expect traffic wise.

The Westbank is on the west side of the Mississippi river, although sometimes, d/t the curves of the river, it is actually east of some of the city. I can't tell you about safe places other than Algiers Point area, been too long since I lived there.

Hello, I live in Marrero now... I have only been on the westbank for two months, so I dont know a TON (like a native) but I like it a lot from what Ive seen so far! Areas include Gretna, Harvey, Marrero, Algiers (I think Westwego, which is very quiet)... Manhatten Blvd and Barataria are great and have lots to offer... So far the best part of the westbank for me is the accessability! I can go downtown in about 10 minutes, plus I can head over the Huey P. long and be in Metairie, Kenner, in about the same...
It's close to everything, and so far Ive found it to be pretty quiet...
