Hi, I am interviewing in a few days for a teaching position in the St. Charles Parish school district. Can anyone tell me a bit about what I can expect as far as reputation of the district, the demographics, the scope of aftermath since Katrina... etc??

If I get the job, what are some housing suggestions for a single, 36 year old female?? I'd be interesting in living out of a simple garage apartment or the like... perhaps somewhere in the quarter or garden district... nothing fancy or rediculously expensive, but safe and decent and quaint...

Would that make for a long commute to St. Charles?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

oh, yeah, long commute. ONly good thing would be going against taffic for most of the way (but not to get out of the CBD). Don't recommend it.

St. Charles has an excellent reputation amongst local teachers! I knew someone who taught there and commuted from St. Bernard. While I wouldn't want that kind of commute, she thought it was worth it. I would recommend looking for something between Orleans and St. Charles to lessen the commute, (but that is because I loathe Metairie traffic). Best wishes and good luck on your interview
