Before Katrina, Metairie used to have a thriving restaurant/night life area just north of Severn Ave, around 17th Street. It's not looking so good these days, or at least about 6 months back when I drove through it last.

Wow! Where is that? We'll be in New Orleans next April, so if we're in the area I may want to check them out.

My husband was in Fat City back in the early-70's when he was in the service. He got so skunk drunk that he slept the night in the gutter. Yes, in the street! Needless to say, he doesn't remember a whole lot about his night there.

He does, however, fondly remember a restaurant called The Steak Pit in Chalmette that still makes his mouth water to think about it. We know it isn't there anymore. But does anyone on this forum remember the place?

LAFrench is on a distinguished road
I remember the bars and some of the restaurants from the 80's and 90's.
What memories....
I always thought Crazie Johnnies was the best....especially the garlic mashed potatoes.

The Steak Pit sounds familiar, but I can't say where it was or that I've ever eaten there. My place used to be Bubba John's. The filet (served with garlic butter) would just melt in your mouth and we had just been given our Sheet Stirer(sp) just weeks before Katrina, damn. Crazy Johnny's has the best garlic potatos in the area imho!

And lest I forget Miss Rose's gumbo (at Bubba's)! We would order it by the gallon!
